Entrusted by Henan Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology, in April 2022, Anyang Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology found and confirmed a site of the mid Neolithic settlement with Peiligang culture as the main body and Cishan cultural factors in the south of Xiaobalizhuang Village, Wenfeng District (High tech Zone), Anyang City. Recently, Anyang Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology released relevant information at the 2022 Henan Archaeological Work Achievement Exchange Meeting. The distribution area of Balizhuang Site is irregular oval, with the widest from east to west of about 230 meters, the longest from north to south of about 150 meters, and the existing area of about 27000 square meters. In the southwest of the site distribution area, an ancient river channel was drilled, which flows from northwest to southeast. In 2022, the excavation will focus on the two exploratory trenches excavated at the eastern and western borders of the site area. The purpose is to explore the formation and causes of abandonment of the site and its relationship with the ancient environment, and to understand whether there are trenches excavated manually around the site and whether there are relics of earlier human activities. Among them, the east trench is in the east-west direction, 27 meters long and 2 meters wide. The direction of the western trench is roughly perpendicular to the side line of the river channel drilled, with a direction of 42 degrees, a length of 42 meters and a width of 2.5 meters. According to Shen Wenxi, the deputy research librarian of Anyang Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology, the unearthed relics are mainly pottery pieces, with clay red pottery small mouth two ear pots, flat bottom pots, three foot pots, sand filled deep belly pots, straight mouth pots (cups), etc. The surface of pottery with sand is decorated with patterns, such as grid dot pattern, rope pattern and zigzag pattern. There are many burnt soil wall fragments unearthed, most of which have plant stem marks. Stone tools include stone shovels, stone axes, stone grinding rods, stone grinding discs, etc. There are also a few bone clams. Anyang is an ancient capital with a long history. Historic sites from the Paleolithic Age to modern times are all over the city. Bayizhuang site in Anyang is the northernmost boundary of Peiligang culture distribution known at present, and also the largest site in northern Henan at the same time. It fills the gap of middle Neolithic culture in Anyang area and even the whole northern Henan area, and further improves the development sequence of local archaeological culture. The new archaeological discovery of Balizhuang site has important academic research value for revealing the cultural connotation and characteristics of the local types of Peiligang culture in northern Henan.
