Li Qun, director of the State Administration of Cultural Relics, said that the fourth national cultural relics census plan took three to four years to comprehensively master the quantity, distribution, characteristics, conservation status, environmental conditions and other conditions of immovable cultural relics, establish a national general catalog of immovable cultural relics, and provide a basis for systematically clarifying China's cultural resources, accurately judging the situation of cultural relics protection, and scientifically formulating cultural relics protection policies. Deng Chao, director of the Department of Cultural Relics and Monuments of the State Administration of Cultural Relics, said that the objects of the fourth national cultural relics survey were immovable cultural relics on the ground, underground and underwater in China, focusing on reviewing the registered and identified immovable cultural relics, and investigating, registering and identifying the newly discovered immovable cultural relics. Through the general survey, it is necessary to fully understand the basic situation of immovable cultural relics, fully publish the list of cultural relics protection sites and immovable cultural relics, fully formulate and implement the special plan for space utilization of immovable cultural relics, comprehensively strengthen the team of cultural relics protection institutions, and comprehensively enhance the awareness of cultural relics protection of the whole society. The third national cultural relics survey began in April 2007 and ended in December 2011. More than 760000 immovable cultural relics were investigated and registered nationwide. Li Qun also revealed that in 2023, the ninth batch of national key cultural relics protection units will be prepared to apply for selection, make overall arrangements for the protection and management of various cultural relics resources at all levels, especially low-level cultural relics, strengthen the supervision and management of cultural relics protection projects, and implement a number of major protection projects for world cultural heritage, grottoes and stone carvings, and cultural relics and buildings.
