Special medical food refers to the formula food specially prepared to meet the special needs for nutrients or meals of people with limited eating, digestive and absorption disorders, metabolic disorders or specific disease conditions, which must be used under the guidance of doctors or clinical nutritionists. It is understood that there are hundreds of millions of clinical patients who need nutritional support every year in China. For special medical food, in addition to quality and safety, how to help doctors, clinical nutritionists and consumers better understand and reasonably use special medical food cannot be ignored. According to the Guidelines, the special medical food label is the general name of words, symbols, numbers, patterns and other instructions used to identify and describe the basic information, characteristics or attributes of food, including labels and instructions. The Guidelines clearly put forward 13 items in the labels and instructions of special medical food, including ingredient list, nutritional composition list, eating method and consumption amount, and suitable people, which will help consumers to break the cognitive barrier and better choose special medical food according to their own conditions. It is worth noting that the Guide first proposed the exclusive mark of special medical food, "Small Blue Flower". "Small Blue Flower" is composed of four leaf clover and two hand stipules, which shall be marked on the upper left corner or the upper right corner of the main display panel of the label of the minimum sales package of the product. Experts believe that the use of the exclusive mark "Small Blue Flower" provides a "identity mark" for the positioning, use and recognition of special medical food, which is convenient for consumers to identify. In addition, the Guide also clearly stipulates the "prohibitive requirements" for the labels and instructions of special medical food, emphasizing that "special effects", "full effects" and other words involving falsehood, exaggeration, violation of scientific principles or absolutization, as well as "prevention", "treatment", "quick health", "excellent technology" and "strong" and other words involving the prevention, treatment of diseases and health care functions are not allowed to mislead consumers.
