Watch out for these three types of fraud at the end of the year

2023-01-03

Near the New Year's Day and the Spring Festival, telecom network fraud cases occur frequently. The "Seeking Truth" column of People's Daily Online sorted out three types of telefraud schemes with rising cases, reminding netizens to pay attention to prevention and protect their "money bags". Fraud 1: falsely claiming that ETC has been disabled "Dear ETC owner: You need to click the website link to disable your ETC, or you will be canceled." Recently, some ETC owners have received similar prompt messages. In fact, this is a fraud message sent by criminals. After the victim clicks the link, he or she will enter a counterfeit page. If he or she enters personal information, bank card number, password and verification code as required, the money in the account will be transferred. Pang Wei, the leader of the Anti Telecom Network Fraud Squadron of Qingzhou Public Security Bureau in Weifang, Shandong Province, said in an interview with the "Truth Seeking" column that the official SMS would not require the bank card number to be filled in, and reminded netizens to be vigilant and not click on unfamiliar links. (Screenshot of short message) Fraud II: falsely claimed that the medical insurance card was "abnormal". Recently, an insured person reported that he received a short message with the content "The medical insurance account has expired", prompting him to click the short message link and rebind his personal information for authentication before using it. This is a fraudulent short message sent by criminals to the insured in the name of "medical insurance disabled", "automatically invalidated without verification", "disqualification of reimbursement", and so on, to induce the insured to click the Trojan link to cheat money. Pang Wei reminded that the medical insurance department would not ask for the identity information, bank account number, password and other information of the insured through telephone, SMS, e-mail and other means. If the insured has questions about their medical insurance accounts, they can call the local government hotline for verification. (Short message screenshot) Deception 3: The false claim that the return of air tickets or train tickets is near the end of recent years, and the number of passengers returning home has greatly increased. The criminals take the opportunity to call or send a short message to the victims who have already bought air tickets and train tickets. They falsely claim that "the flight or train has been canceled due to the epidemic situation". They need to operate according to the requirements or click the link in the short message to handle the return and change of tickets, and compensate for the relevant expenses. The lawbreaker guides the victim to fill in the name, ID card, bank card and other personal information in the link to steal funds. The column of "truth seeking" reminds everyone: at the end of the year, beware of fraudsters who "rush the performance". We should "not click on unknown links, not trust unfamiliar calls, not disclose personal information, and verify more transfers and remittances". (Liu Xinshe)
