The Guangdong Provincial Government held a press conference and said that all preparations for the policy of "Macao cars going north" have been completed. The Administrative Measures of Guangdong Province on Macao's Motor Vehicles Entering and Exiting the Mainland via the Zhuhai Highway Port of the Hong Kong Zhuhai Macao Bridge will be formally implemented from the 20th, and the application for Macao's private cars will be accepted from now on. From 0:00 on January 1, 2023, Macao's private cars will be officially opened to Guangdong. Deng Zhengyu, the first level inspector of the Public Security Department of Guangdong Province and the director of the Traffic Management Bureau, said that the official implementation of the policy of "Macao cars going north" would benefit about 80,000 Macao private car owners and greatly facilitate the traffic between Guangdong and Macao. In recent years, the two governments have worked closely together to formulate the Administrative Measures of Guangdong Province on Macao Motor Vehicles Entering and Exiting the Mainland via the Zhuhai Highway Port of the Hong Kong Zhuhai Macao Bridge, and signed the Agreement on Macao Motor Vehicles Entering and Exiting Guangdong, which has successfully opened up the key links such as licensing application, insurance purchase, and system construction. According to the policy management measures of "Macao cars going north", Macao car owners who are 18 years old or older and hold the Hong Kong and Macao residents' travel permit to the mainland can apply for a Macao private car license registered and held by them to enter the mainland. There are no restrictions on investment, tax and other conditions. Macao residents can go through all formalities in a one-stop manner without going out of their homes. They can use the information management service system of "Qantas car going north" to achieve online service. At present, the governments of Guangdong and Hong Kong are also negotiating the implementation details of the policy of "Hong Kong vehicles going north" according to the requirements of the State Council's reply. It is expected that the detailed arrangements will be announced in the first quarter of 2023 and implemented within that year. (Liu Xinshe)
