On the 19th, the Industrial Development and Environmental Governance Research Center of Tsinghua University and Springer Nature Group jointly released the International Science and Technology Innovation Center Index 2022. Among the global international science and technology innovation centers, Beijing has made steady progress in recent years, ranking the third in the world, and has achieved significant improvement in innovation ecological indicators. The International Science and Technology Innovation Center Index 2022 evaluates the innovation capacity of 100 cities (metropolitan areas) in the world through 31 indicators in three dimensions of science center, innovation highland and innovation ecology, reflecting the change trend of the world's innovation landscape and the innovation performance of important domestic cities. The assessment shows that San Francisco San Jose ranked first, achieving three consecutive championships, New York ranked second, and Beijing ranked third after London. Asian cities have outstanding performance in the field of green and low-carbon development, and have significant advantages in renewable energy technology patents. Tang Enping, president of Springer Nature Group in Greater China, said that innovation is a key engine for economic growth and social development, and international openness and cooperation have increasingly played a supporting role in innovation output. At present, China's innovation strength is constantly improving, and Beijing is playing an increasingly important role in the global innovation network. It is expected that more Chinese cities will become international science and technology innovation centers. Xu Qiang, director of Beijing Municipal Commission of Science and Technology and Zhongguancun Science and Technology Park Management Committee, said that it is of great practical significance to carry out research on the index of science and technology innovation center. As one of the regions with the strongest scientific and technological foundation, the most concentrated innovation resources and the most active innovation subjects in China, Beijing has favorable conditions to build a major science center and innovation highland in the world. In recent years, Beijing has made important progress in building an international science and technology innovation center. It has made landmark achievements in the layout and implementation of national laboratories, large scientific device clusters, new research and development institutions, and major original innovation breakthroughs in artificial intelligence, quantum information and other fields. It is worth noting that Beijing, Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area, and Shanghai, the three international science and technology innovation centers planned and constructed by China, have all entered the top ten. For the first time, Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area has surpassed Tokyo Bay and become a new value chain hub in Asia. (Liu Xinshe)
