"I hope to record the life of Chinese immigrants in New Zealand by oral history. Fang Hua moved to Auckland, New Zealand from China in 2003. In the past 20 years, he has established a Chinese language publishing house and operated a Chinese language bookstore in the local area, providing Chinese culture "sustenance" for the local Chinese community, and also used publications to record the stories of local Chinese. In 2021, he began to produce the video interview program "Chinese People from Other Countries". The inspiration of this program comes from an immigration interview program hosted by Fang Hua on local radio 17 years ago. "Last year, I happened to find a recording tape. When I heard the interview story of that year, I was deeply touched and had the idea of making Chinese People Abroad." Just do what I say. Fang Hua alone undertook all the work of interview, shooting, editing, etc., and successfully launched a series of interviews. So far, he has visited nearly 60 local Chinese. The interviewees in this program include local teachers, businessmen, artists, government officials, etc. They talked about the ups and downs of life in New Zealand in front of the camera. Compared with the Chinese food industry and other industries that many Chinese are engaged in overseas, Fang Hua's cultural communication work is somewhat "cold", but his enthusiasm has never changed. In June 2008, Fang Hua established a New Zealand Chinese bookstore in the local area, and in 2009, he also established Markway Publishing House. In the first year of its establishment, the publishing house gathered more than 100 novels, essays, essays, photography and other works of 56 local Chinese writers, and published A Piece of Cloud for You. In order to attract more readers to pay attention to Chinese bookstores and understand Chinese culture, Fang Hua has held 10 consecutive reading culture festivals in the local area since 2009, and invited Yi Zhongtian and others to serve as "cultural ambassadors", becoming a local influential cultural event. The charm of Chinese culture makes Fang Hua have a group of loyal supporters. He still remembered that an old overseas Chinese brought his children to the bookstore for a discount promotion, insisted on paying the full price when buying books, and said to him, "You don't need to give me a discount, I hope the bookstore will keep running, so that our future generations will have a place to buy Chinese books and understand Chinese culture." Many local friends and sinologists also contacted Fang Hua, asking him to help them find the Chinese books they need. In the information age, more and more people choose the Internet, mobile phones and other media to obtain information, instead of buying paper books, physical bookstores are not easy to operate. Although Fanghua's Chinese bookstore has made great efforts to support it, there are fewer and fewer customers coming to the store. It has to change from a physical store of about 100 square meters to an online store. "Chinese history, traditional culture books and books about learning Chinese are the most popular."
