Going to the birthplace of major civilizations in the world to participate in excavation and research is another milestone for Chinese archaeology to face the world. Luxor, located in the south of Egypt, is a famous historic city and enjoys the reputation of "the largest open-air museum in the world". It has the Karnak Temple, Luxor Temple, the Valley of the Kings, the Valley of the Queen and other archaeological resources, which can be called the place where the essence of ancient Egyptian civilization is gathered, so it is known as the "frontier" of global archaeology. At the end of 2018, the China Egypt Joint Archaeological Team established by the Archaeological Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and the Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Relics of Egypt started a cooperative trip in the Luxor Monastery. This is the first time that a Chinese archaeological team has gone to Egypt for archaeological excavation since the founding of New China. At present, the joint archaeological project has completed four quarters of field work and has made a series of achievements, showing a promising prospect for cooperation in the archaeological field between China and Egypt. The site of Montu Temple, which presents the "new picture" of the temple, is located in the north of Luxor and forms the Karnak temple complex with the main Amun temple and the Mute temple. Since about 2000 BC, the pharaohs of all dynasties have been building, decorating and repairing large stone temples here, making it the largest religious complex in ancient Egyptian history. In 1979, Karnak Temple Area was listed as a world cultural heritage by UNESCO, and it is still one of the most popular tourist attractions in Egypt. The Montu temple area was built during the reign of Amenhotep III of the 18th Dynasty (14th century BC) in the New Kingdom of ancient Egypt, and became perfect from the 4th century BC to the 3rd century BC. Around the 1st century AD, the temple area of Mengtu began to decline, and the long disrepair led to the gradual disappearance of the statues of gods and religious sacrificial scenes. The folk houses buried part of the temple until the 19th century, when it was all turned into ruins. Ancient Egyptian temples are also called "the abode of gods". At least four gods are enshrined in the wall of the Montu temple area, including the main god Montu, Maat, the goddess of justice and fairness, Osiris, the rich god, and Harpur, the son of Montu. The faith of Montu God originated in Thebes (now Luxor), and has experienced many changes. During the New Kingdom, it was mostly represented by the image of a bull who was brave and good at fighting, which is why Montu God is often called the "God of War". The pharaohs of the Twenty fifth Dynasty worshipped the god Mentu and built a magnificent column hall in front of the temple, decorated with colorful reliefs such as purification, sacrifice and coronation. Compared with the Temple of Montu, the temple of Maat occupies a smaller area, and the surviving walls retain the inscriptions of the Ramesside period (about the 12th century BC)
