The results of the 18th "Beijing Tokyo Forum" public opinion survey on China Japan relations were released online in Beijing and Tokyo on the 30th. The survey shows that respondents from both countries agree on the importance of China Japan relations and the important role of economic factors in China Japan relations, and look forward to strengthening bilateral and multilateral cooperation in the new situation. The survey shows that the interviewees from both sides have broad consensus on the importance of China Japan relations. 71.3% of Chinese respondents think that Sino Japanese relations are "important" or "relatively important", and 74.8% of Japanese respondents hold the same view. With regard to strengthening bilateral and multilateral cooperation between the two countries in the new situation, 78.3% of Chinese respondents support the cooperation between China and Japan in bilateral and Asian regional affairs, and believe that peace, cooperative development, etc. are the most important goals and concepts that China and Japan should achieve together. According to the survey results, respondents from both countries agree that economic factors play an important role in China Japan relations. 77.4% of Chinese respondents and 73% of Japanese respondents believe that China Japan economic cooperation is "important" for their own future. In the face of severe challenges to global free trade, Chinese respondents supported the maintenance of the free trade system and were happy to see China and Japan carry out economic cooperation to jointly cope with the adverse international trade environment. The survey also shows that history, territorial disputes and other issues continue to affect Chinese respondents' perceptions of China Japan relations, and the Japan US alliance continues to have negative effects on China Japan relations. The investigation was jointly carried out by the Chinese Foreign Language and Culture Bureau and the Japanese Speech NPO. The 18th "Beijing Tokyo Forum" will be held in Beijing and Tokyo from December 7 to 8 in the form of online and offline combination. (Liu Xinshe)
