On November 15, the National Health Commission released information pointing out that hypertension is a chronic disease that seriously endangers the health of Chinese residents. The state has continuously increased efforts to prevent and control hypertension, promoted health management with the focus on high-risk groups, and pushed forward the prevention and control threshold. After years of efforts, the awareness rate, treatment rate and control rate of hypertension have been continuously improved, and the prevention and treatment work has made great progress. The country has standardized procedures for the development of diagnostic standards for hypertension and other diseases. The guidelines and consensus issued by professional institutions, industry associations, individuals, etc. are the research results of experts and not the national disease diagnostic standards. As for the diagnostic criteria of hypertension, the key points of publicity and education, prevention and treatment guidelines, and clinical pathways issued by the national health administrative department in 2005, 2010, and 2017 were clear: the diagnostic criteria of adult hypertension was that the blood pressure exceeded 140/90 mmHg three times on different days. At present, the country has not adjusted the diagnostic criteria for adult hypertension. The state will continue to do a good job in the prevention and early intervention of hypertension, strengthen the health management of high-risk groups and patients, effectively reduce the occurrence and development of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases caused by hypertension, and effectively ensure the health of the people.
