During the 27th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP27) held in Sharm el Sheikh, a coastal city in Egypt, participants commended China's National Strategy for Adaptation to Climate Change 2035 (abbreviated as Strategy 2035) released in the first half of this year, and looked forward to China sharing its experience in adapting to climate change with the world. "The Adaptation Strategy 2035 proposed by China is unprecedented, and no other country in the world has been able to focus on the present and look into the future at the same time." Patrick Ferkoyan, CEO of the Global Climate Adaptation Center, said in a speech at the sideline meeting on the theme "China's Strategy and Action for Adaptation to Climate Change" recently. In his speech, Ferkoyan quoted an ancient Chinese saying, "It is better to prepare before the rain, rather than dig a well when you are thirsty." He explained that China's outstanding actions in tackling climate issues today are a highly embodiment and practical application of the wisdom of the ancient Chinese. Ferkoyan pointed out that adaptation to climate change is not only a major challenge for mankind, but also will bring many new opportunities. "Because the story of China tells us that investment to adapt to climate change can not only promote employment and economic growth, but also promote the prosperity and stable development of the country," he said. In particular, he pointed out that the Adaptation Strategy 2035 is a multi-level comprehensive strategy, which considers how to adapt to climate change from the urban, national and global levels. "China has rich experience in climate adaptation. If we can cooperate with China to apply this model to Africa, it would be great." Ahmed Said, Vice President of the Asian Development Bank, said: "China's climate strategy is a good example. The strategy not only focuses on its own country, but also shares its experience with the world and expands cooperation with other developing countries, which is a positive step towards the right direction of cooperation." He said: "Climate action requires unity among all parties, adherence to multilateralism and active international cooperation." (Le News Agency)
