British media: With the intensification of tensions with the United States, Germany, France and Beijing have become closer and closer

The original title of the article in the British Daily Telegraph on November 12: In the new cold war, Europe chose one side - China subtitle: With the intensification of tensions with the United States, Germany and France have closer relations with Beijing. With the rapid deterioration of relations between the United States, the West and China, every developed economy will have to choose one side. Obviously, the major European countries and the EU itself have chosen China. In the past few weeks, we have seen one example after another of deepening industrial and commercial relations with China. On the whole, we can forget the words that stood with the United States. From the perspective of investment decisions, Europe actually chose the East. Obviously, there is a cold war between China and the West. The United States is ready to defend itself against a resurgent strong China. The United States imposed a round of severe science and technology sanctions on China, which forced many American (Chinese American) engineers to leave and forced American enterprises to find alternative suppliers - often at a huge cost. We will hear many comments from major European countries about how the West needs a united front, how it should confront China's growing political influence, and how it should unite with the United States under common values. But now the problem is that Europe is also accelerating its economic and trade relations with China. Just look at the decisions made in the past few months. Renault, a French auto giant, recently announced that one of its engine production divisions will establish a joint venture with the ambitious Chinese company Geely. Renault will not do this without the approval of the French government. Germany has just allowed COSCO China to take a stake in Hamburg Port, one of the most important ports in the European continent. German Prime Minister Schultz flew to Beijing this month to promote German Chinese trade. In addition, China is massively increasing the production of batteries (a strategic industry) throughout Europe. So far this year, China's Honeycomb Energy has expanded a large new factory in Germany. The manufacturer Ningde Times announced plans to build a second large factory in Hungary (there is already one in Germany), and the other three Chinese manufacturers announced plans to build factories in Spain, Germany and Portugal. There is a lot of discussion about building the European battery industry, but in fact, all the major investments now come from the Chinese. We occasionally see attempts to limit China's growing influence on the European continent. For example, Germany decided last week to prevent Chinese companies from acquiring two semiconductor companies, but these are very limited. Among all the major decisions, the business between major European countries and China has increased and continued to increase as much as possible. In contrast, trade frictions between (Europe) and the United States are as tense as ever. Just this month, the European Union attacked the US President Biden's Inflation Reduction Act for providing subsidies to US companies, complaining that this is to protect US industries at the expense of European competitors. The EU also complained to the United States that its subsidies for electric vehicles discriminated against EU competitors. In Europe, many people talk about how to confront China and how to stand on the side of the United States - if not militarily, at least economically. But industrial policy is far more important than words. Europe is steadily expanding its trade and investment relations with China. The EU's investment decisions increasingly show that major EU countries
