Middle aged people walk fast with low risk of cardiovascular disease
2022-11-11
A recent study published in the journal Science Report shows that the walking speed of adults can help judge the risk of heart failure attack and the first event of cardiovascular disease. Those who feel that they walk faster than their peers have significantly reduced the above risk. The research team of the Cardiovascular Department of the Affiliated Hospital of the Medical Department of the University of Tokyo, Japan, used the data of physical examination and medical expense application from more than 60 insurance organizations, took more than 260000 middle-aged people with an average age of 45 years as the subjects, and divided them into two groups: fast group and slow group (the former accounted for 46.1%) according to the survey on subjective walking speed (compared with peers) during the physical examination, with an average of 1180 days of tracking. The results showed that the risk of heart failure, myocardial infarction, angina pectoris and stroke decreased by 9%, 10%, 6% and 6% respectively in the fast walking group compared with the slow walking group. In addition, it was found that in the case of hypertension and diabetes, the group with fast walking speed had a lower risk of heart failure. Researchers believe that walking is known as the "road to heart health" and also an effective basic measure for the primary prevention of cardiovascular disease. (Liu Xinshe)
