2022-11-11
Data released by the US Department of Labor on the 10th showed that the US consumer price index (CPI) rose 0.4% month on month in October, up 7.7% year on year. Data from the Labor Department showed that the month on month increase of US CPI in October was the same as that in September; The year-on-year increase was 0.5 percentage point lower than that in September, the smallest year-on-year increase since January this year. Excluding volatile food and energy prices, core CPI rose 0.3% month on month and 6.3% year on year. Specifically, energy prices rebounded in October, rising 1.8% month on month, ending the previous three consecutive months of decline. The housing cost, which accounts for about one-third of the CPI, rose 0.8% month on month, 0.1 percentage point higher than that in September. Analysts believe that the US CPI growth in October was lower than the market consensus expectation, indicating a slight improvement in the inflation situation, but the year-on-year growth is still far higher than the 2% long-term inflation target set by the Federal Reserve, which may push the Federal Reserve to continue to tighten monetary policy. In addition, the strong employment growth in the United States supports demand, and the inflation momentum may be difficult to reverse in a short time. (Liu Xinshe)
