China and the International Bamboo and Rattan Organization jointly launched the "bamboo instead of plastic" initiative
2022-11-09
China and the International Bamboo and Rattan Organization recently jointly launched an initiative to deepen the cooperation of "replacing plastic products with bamboo" in the world, so as to better play the prominent advantages and role of bamboo in replacing plastic products. The reporter learned this at the Second World Bamboo and Rattan Conference co sponsored by the State Forestry and Grassland Administration and the International Bamboo and Rattan Organization. It is reported that the increasingly serious problem of plastic pollution threatens human health. As a green, low-carbon, biodegradable biomass material, bamboo can directly replace some non biodegradable plastic products in packaging, building materials and other fields. "Replacing plastic with bamboo" can increase the proportion of green bamboo products and reduce plastic pollution. It is proposed that all countries should formulate support policies of "replacing plastics with bamboo" to provide policy guarantees for the global development of "replacing plastics with bamboo", promote scientific and technological innovation, encourage scientific research, and create conditions for the utilization of new technologies and the development of new products of "replacing plastics with bamboo". In addition, the proposal also proposes to increase the public publicity of "bamboo instead of plastic", widely publicize the advantages of bamboo in packaging materials, construction projects, household goods and other fields through expert forums, exhibitions, demonstrations and public activities at different levels of the international, regional and national levels, and expand the bamboo products market. The International Bamboo and Rattan Organization is the first intergovernmental international organization headquartered in China, and also an international organization dedicated to the sustainable development of the bamboo and Rattan industry. Its member countries and observer countries are widely distributed in Africa, Asia, the Americas and Oceania. (Liu Xinshe)
