China's openness index continues to rise

2022-11-09

At the 5th International Expo, the Hongqiao International Economic Forum released the World Open up Report 2022. The report shows that China's openness index rose from 0.7107 in 2012 to 0.7507 in 2020, an increase of 5.6%, and its ranking rose from 47th to 39th, becoming an important force to promote economic globalization. With the increase of the opening-up index, China's achievements in opening up to the outside world are remarkable. The share of import and export of goods in the international market has increased from 10.4% in 2012 to 13.5% in 2021, maintaining the status of the world's largest country in trade in goods. The number of free trade agreements signed with foreign countries has increased from 10 to 19 in the past 10 years, moving towards a higher standard, and promoting overseas cooperation industrial park projects with countries along the "the Belt and Road", creating 392000 jobs for 46 countries... The report shows that, China's adherence to high-level opening up has achieved remarkable results, demonstrating China's contribution to global opening up and cooperation. China's expanded opening up has brought positive effects. The report shows that from 2008 to 2020, the openness index of BRICS countries will increase by 6.3%, and that of the "the Belt and Road" economies will increase by 5%. The developing economies represented by China are opening wider, while the developed economies are narrowing. In 2020, the openness index of developed economies will be 5.9% lower than that of 2008. Christopher Pisarides, a professor at the London School of Economics and Political Science and a Nobel laureate in economics, affirmed and appreciated China's expansion of opening up. He believed that opening up is the best way to enhance common well-being. A world of benign social interaction, cultural exchange and mutual learning, open economic development, active ideological collision, and free flow of people would certainly be better than a world of self isolation and mutual division. "Overcoming global challenges requires real global cooperation. China has always unswervingly opened up to the outside world, provided more public goods and international cooperation platforms for the international community, and contributed Chinese wisdom and Chinese solutions to improving global governance." Gu Xueming, director of the Research Center of Hongqiao International Economic Forum, said. (Liu Xinshe)
