China calls on the international community to help the Central African Republic consolidate the achievements of peace
2022-10-20
The Deputy Permanent Representative of China to the United Nations, Geng Shuang, made a speech at the open meeting of the Security Council on the Central African Republic on the 19th and appealed to the international community to help the country consolidate the achievements of peace. Geng Shuang said that at present, the political and security situation in the Central African Republic is generally good, and the peace process continues to advance, while still facing many difficulties and challenges. The international community should increase support in the following areas: First, accelerate the implementation of the peace agreement. The Chinese side welcomes the Government of the Central African Republic to actively implement the results of the "Republican Dialogue", show a positive attitude in dialogue with armed groups and promote the comprehensive disarmament of armed forces, and strive to revitalize the peace process. While providing assistance to the country's peace process, the international community should respect the country's sovereignty and leadership and support its people to independently choose a development path that is in line with their national conditions. 2、 We will strengthen security capacity building. In recent years, the Government of the Central African Republic has actively deployed security forces, the domestic security situation has been improving, and the scope of activities of armed groups has been shrinking. International partners and the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic should help the country to enhance its ability to maintain stability independently and respect its right to conduct external security cooperation. Security Council sanctions still have an impact on the country's security capacity and should be completely lifted. 3、 Increase peace building efforts. The Central African Republic has a tight financial situation, a shortage of energy and food, and a serious economic and livelihood situation. 60% of the country's population needs humanitarian assistance. Local elections, disarmament, demobilization and other work also need a lot of funds. The current peace gains in the Central African Republic are hard won, and the support of the international community cannot be relaxed. Relevant countries and international organizations should resume assistance as soon as possible to help the country ease its economic and humanitarian difficulties. The international community should increase its investment in the country's development, help it improve its endogenous development momentum, transform its resource advantages into development advantages, and break the vicious circle of "chaos due to poverty" and "poverty returning due to chaos".
