Guo Ruoping pointed out in the article "The Field of Ideological History: Political Response to the History of the Communist Party of China's Concept" (published in the Fourth Issue of Research on the History of the Communist Party of China in 2022) that there seems to be a dispute between Chinese and foreign scholars about how to study the history of concept, or that the study of concept history should focus on the change of concepts in social history, or that the study of concept history should focus on the conceptual debate of concepts in the history of political language. As far as the history of the concept of the Communist Party of China is concerned, both of these two orientations are conducive to opening up a different perspective of analysis in the study. However, from the perspective of the research function of concept history, concept history is a linguistic phenomenon that exists as the history of ideographic thought. The change of concept history not only carries the changes of the history of thought, but also explains itself because of the existence of the history of thought, which makes the interpretation of concept history appear interlaced and complex. Observing the generation, finalization, change and semantic renewal of political concepts in the problem domain of the history of the Communist Party of China's ideology can be regarded as an effective way to study the history of the Communist Party of China's concept. To reveal the history of a specific political concept, we should trace back to the ideological history process implied by the concept, how the history of political concept responds to the history of political thought in language, how the history of political thought provides a field for the interpretation of the history of political concept, and why there is an inseparable historical connection between the transformation of political thought and the renewal of political concept. These are issues that cannot be ignored in the study of the history of the concept of the Communist Party of China. (Outlook New Times)
