I clearly remember that on the evening of May 13, 2013, I just finished an interview and was carrying my camera tripod back to Renmin University. When I got to the school gymnasium, I received the admission notice for the Classics Experimental Class of the National People's Congress. From that moment on, I changed from an apprentice in the School of Journalism to a freshman in the Classics Experimental Class, started a new life with great expectations, and spent a total of six years of learning career at the undergraduate and master level under the guidance and accompanied by the Classics teachers and friends of the NPC. In 2010, the School of Liberal Arts of Renmin University of China took the lead in establishing an undergraduate experimental class of classical studies in China, with Professor Liu Xiaofeng as the teaching supervisor. Since then, various interdisciplinary attempts have been made in liberal arts education in domestic universities. Classics belongs to the interdisciplinary experiment within the humanities of literature, history, philosophy and humanities. In recent years, there are also interdisciplinary experimental classes between humanities and social sciences, such as the PPE (Politics Economy Philosophy) experimental class created by universities. As the name implies, classicism is the study of ancient classics. However, literature, history and philosophy all study ancient classics. Why should we set up another classicism major? In fact, classicism first appeared in Europe in the 17th century. The western classicism mainly focuses on the western tradition, that is, the study of ancient Greece and ancient Rome. At that time, some people of insight in the West deeply felt the crisis of modernity, and the rise of classicism itself had the intention to reflect on modernity. Today, our classicism does not want to copy the western discipline system, but hopes to make up for the missing link in the transformation of China's university system. Western classical studies naturally have more self-consciousness, but the classical western studies introduced by China require us to study the West clearly with China's unique problem consciousness, and re recognize the West through the study of western ancient classics; Through the study of Chinese classics, we can look at China again. Moreover, under the modern discipline system, each major of literature, history and philosophy has its own discipline methodology, which forms a barrier between each other while developing professionally. As an interdisciplinary educational idea, Classics hopes to break the boundaries of modern disciplines of literature, history and philosophy, and strive to enable students to form a complete knowledge structure and overcome the barriers of modern disciplines. According to the training program of the Classics Experimental Class, at the beginning, we will learn the basics of Chinese and Western classical languages, and then deeply understand the Chinese and Western classics and cultural traditions. In the undergraduate stage, we need to spend a lot of energy to learn ancient Greek, ancient Latin, and ancient Chinese, and also read the core classics, such as Homer's Epic, Plato's Dialogue, The Analects of Confucius, The Book of Rites, and The Historical Records, as well as the classics of Shakespeare, Rousseau and other sages. In addition, the Classics Experimental Class will also offer some liberal courses, including western art history, western thought history, classical music theory, etc. In the learning process, I found that most courses would pay more attention to the original classics than to the introduction, which easily led to the students' difficulty in forming the macro structure of their thoughts. However, in-depth learning is not entirely the responsibility of teachers, but more the task of students themselves.
