Accelerating the New Journey of Educational Modernization

Recently, the Ministry of Education held a "1+1" series of press conferences on the "Decade of Education" to introduce the historic achievements and changes in China's education since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China. In the past decade, the world's largest education system has been built, and the level of education development and popularization has been rapidly improved. By 2021, there will be 529300 schools of all kinds at all levels, 291 million students and 18.4437 million full-time teachers. The popularization of education at all levels has reached or exceeded the average level of high-income countries, the popularization of preschool education and compulsory education has reached the average level of high-income countries in the world, higher education has entered the internationally recognized popularization stage, and the main framework of the socialist education system with Chinese characteristics has been basically established. Ten years of hard work has made great achievements. The historic leap in the development of educational modernization highlights the great achievements and historical inevitability of the Chinese style modernization road. We should develop education with the people as the center and take educational equity as the basic national educational policy. Education equity is an important basis for social equity. To adhere to the socialist direction of China's education modernization, we must adhere to the principle of public welfare in education. Since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC), our party has formulated correct education policies and taken effective measures to meet the needs of the people for education to the maximum extent: it has fully realized the basic balance of compulsory education at the county level, becoming another new milestone in the history of the development of compulsory education in China. In the central and western regions and rural areas, 950000 people have been admitted to key universities through the national special enrollment plan for rural areas and poverty alleviation areas. Through the construction of a sound student aid policy system, we have achieved full coverage of "students from all school sections, all schools, and all families with financial difficulties", and funded nearly 1.3 billion students in ten years. Through the implementation of the nutrition improvement plan for rural compulsory education students, 123800 rural compulsory education schools were covered, benefiting 350 million students. With the deepening of education modernization, education equity, as a basic national education policy, has been promoting the development of education to benefit all people more and more equitably, and promoting social equity and justice with education equity. Based on the overall situation, we should run education and constantly improve the ability of education to serve economic and social development. The development of education modernization should not only accurately grasp the law of education development, but also the deep relationship between education and economic and social development and the law of supply and demand, and understand the positioning and mission of education from a more macro perspective. The construction of the modern vocational education system was accelerated, and the integration of industry and education and the cooperation between schools and enterprises were deepened. More than 70% of the employees in modern manufacturing, strategic emerging industries and modern service industries were added. Remarkable achievements have been made in promoting the construction of world-class universities and disciplines as a whole, important and original achievements have been made in a number of frontier areas, and a large number of universities and disciplines have been driven to continuously improve their talent training level and their ability to serve the national strategy.
