Recently, the reporter learned from the State Key Laboratory for Generic Technology of Traditional Chinese Medicine (hereinafter referred to as the generic technology laboratory) that the first Chinese medicine oral liquid strip package production line developed by the laboratory has been completed and put into operation. The biggest feature of the project is that the new "plastic bag" replaces the traditional glass bottle to hold oral solution. As a result, the production line can process 25000 tons of traditional Chinese medicine every year and produce 3 billion packs of oral liquid every year. This is the first time for the Chinese medicine industry. As the only national key laboratory in the field of generic technology of traditional Chinese medicine in China, the generic technology laboratory was built on the basis of Lunan Pharmaceutical Group. Based on the development needs of the traditional Chinese medicine industry, it has gathered more than 130 high-quality and top talent teams, linked with more than 100 colleges and universities, and formed a dominant position of "industry university research" integrated application research and rapid industrialization of implementable scientific research achievements in China. For a long time, the combination of "oral liquid+glass bottle" has been regarded as the golden partner of liquid drugs. The latter has also been considered as the first choice for oral liquid packaging because of its transparency, aesthetics, chemical stability and other advantages, but its disadvantages such as heavy weight, high transportation and storage costs, impact resistance, easily broken, and difficult drug absorption are also criticized by the market. At the same time, there is a risk that the ingredients of traditional Chinese medicine may react with the glass bottle. In the opinion of Zhang Guimin, Secretary of the Party Committee, Chairman, General Manager and Director of the General Technology Laboratory of Lunan Pharmaceutical Group, the pain point of the market is the key research topic of the national key laboratory. Composite packaging film refers to the packaging film formed by multi-layer film through printing and laminating. However, there is no precedent in the industry to apply composite membrane packaging to traditional Chinese medicine oral liquid, and a series of technical problems need to be solved. To this end, Lunan Pharmaceutical, relying on the national key laboratory of generic technology and taking Xiaoer Xiaoji Zhike Oral Liquid as the demonstration carrier, has carried out collaborative technology research with Sichuan Food and Drug Inspection and Testing Institute and relevant packaging materials and equipment manufacturers. In May 2020, the State Drug Administration approved the use of composite membrane packaging materials in the production of oral liquid preparations of traditional Chinese medicine. In this regard, the first domestic enterprise to use pharmaceutical composite membrane packaging materials for the packaging of traditional Chinese medicine oral liquid was born. When the national key laboratory is built in the enterprise, the former is deeply connected with the local atmosphere. Guan Yongxia, the deputy director of the laboratory, introduced to the reporter: "Compared with glass bottles, the inner packing volume of a drug can be saved about 0.14 yuan, and hundreds of millions of funds can be saved for a production line. At the same time, in the past, bottle packing required complex processes such as packaging materials, straws, bottle washers, and light inspection, but now it just needs to wrap composite membranes inside and wrap paper outside. This means that not only the process is simplified, but also the demand for labor and supporting equipment is less." This is not the only pioneering technology of the laboratory.
