In 2010, Chinese scholars first isolated the pathogen of this new tick disease: fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome virus. Liu Wei studied a series of tick borne viruses represented by this virus. Because of the unique breeding environment of ticks, people in remote mountainous areas or soldiers stationed in the field are often infected with tick disease.
