Brief Introduction to the Academic Seminar on "The Communist Party of China and China for a Century"

Recently, the academic seminar of "The Communist Party of China and the Centennial China" and the 2021 annual meeting of the Chinese Modern History Society, jointly sponsored by the Chinese Modern History Society and Shandong University and organized by the School of History and Culture of Shandong University, were held in Jinan. More than 100 experts and scholars from domestic universities and scientific research institutes have conducted heated discussions and in-depth exchanges around the following aspects, and the seminar has yielded many new ideas and fruitful results. From a long-term perspective, review and summarize the historical process and practical experience of the Communist Party of China in exploring the path of Chinese style modernization over the past century. Jin Minqing, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Institute of Modern History of the Chinese Academy of Historical Studies, proposed that the revolutionary history of the Great Revolution, the Agrarian Revolution, the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the War of Liberation should be thoroughly investigated, and the cause and effect relationship should be made with the historical process of the People's Republic of China. Wang Xutian, professor of the School of International Relations of Renmin University of China, observed the historical evolution and practical enlightenment of the CPC's establishment and consolidation of the people's democratic dictatorship from a long-term perspective. Yu Zuhua, professor of the School of History and Culture of Ludong University, discussed the centennial course of the discourse construction of the CPC's "national modernization" from a macro perspective. In addition, the scholars also analyzed and discussed the experience and enlightenment of the construction of grass-roots organizations since the founding of the Communist Party of China, the model and experience of rural governance, the application of the "mass line" thought in more than a hundred years of party building, the course and experience of the social construction of the Communist Party of China and other topics from multiple levels and perspectives. The research scope of the history of New China and the history of socialist development has been greatly broadened. Zhang Zhiyong, a professor at the Research Center for the Revolutionary Spirit and Cultural Resources of the Communist Party of China at Hebei Normal University, made a macro examination of the history of the Communist Party of China's exploration of the people's congress system before and after the founding of New China. Li Feilong, a professor of the Marxist School of Southwest University, focused on ethnic minority areas and investigated the laws and systems introduced at the level of national governance in the early days of the founding of New China. In terms of the research on the industrial history of New China, Li Zhongqing, associate professor of the School of History and Culture of Hebei Normal University, focused on the development of export industry and the start of industrialization in the early days of the founding of New China. There are a wide range of topics in the field of social history research. Scholars have carried out research on disaster relief in the early days of the founding of New China, urban residents' marital relations, rural water improvement technology development, and the production mobilization of rural women by the Communist Party of China. Modern history studies focus on understanding the historical process of China in the past hundred years from the ideological and cultural level. Wang Xianming, a professor of the History School of Nankai University, focused on the texts compiled by the world and discussed the New Culture Movement in the historical context from "self-improvement" to "self-examination", providing a new perspective for the New Culture Movement. Chen Xianchu, a professor of Yuelu Academy of Hunan University, combed the relationship between Li Shicen and the spread of western irrational philosophy in China, enriching the historical understanding of the ideological debate in the late May 4th Movement. The establishment of the mainstream status of Marxist historiography and the research on its relationship with the historiography circle have attracted the attention of scholars. For example, the reconstruction of the academic system of historiography in the early days of the founding of New China has been explored by taking such journals as Literature, History and Philosophy as examples. In addition to the traditional political history and cultural history, a broader study of social cultural history and social life history has become increasingly prosperous.
