Wang Yi Expounds China's Six Point Proposition on the Current International Situation
2022-09-26
On September 24, 2022 local time, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi attended the general debate of the 77th United Nations General Assembly and delivered a speech at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. Wang Yi said that this is an era full of challenges. The world has entered a new period of upheaval and change, and the unprecedented changes in a century have accelerated their evolution. This is also an era full of hope. World multipolarization, economic globalization, social informatization, and cultural diversity are deepening, and countries are increasingly linked and dependent. The theme of the times of peace and development has not changed, and people of all countries have a stronger desire for progress and cooperation. Wang Yi said that how to respond to the requirements of the times, grasp the historical trend, and jointly build a community with a shared future for mankind, China's proposition is firm and clear: First, peace, not war. Peace is the prerequisite for all a better future and the basis for the common security of all countries. Turbulence and war are like opening Pandora's box, provoking agent wars is very easy to backfire on themselves, and pursuing their own absolute security will inevitably damage global strategic stability. We should persist in handling differences peacefully and resolve disputes through dialogue and consultation. 2、 We need development, not poverty. Development is the key to solving various problems and realizing people's happiness. We need to put development at the center of the international agenda, build international consensus on promoting development, uphold the legitimate right of all countries to development, foster new drivers of global development, and build a global partnership for development so that the fruits of development can benefit every country and every person more equitably. 3、 Be open, not closed. Protectionism will only bind itself, and breaking the chain will harm others and others. We should advocate openness and inclusiveness, remove barriers that hinder the free flow of factors of production, maintain the multilateral trading system with the World Trade Organization at its core, and promote the building of an open world economy. 4、 Cooperation, not confrontation. In the face of endless global challenges, the most powerful force is to work together, the most effective way is to help each other in the same boat, and the brightest prospect is win-win cooperation. There are inevitably contradictions and differences between countries, but mutual understanding should be enhanced on the basis of equality and respect. We should replace conflict with dialogue, replace coercion with consultation, replace zero sum with win-win results, and jointly resist group politics and camp confrontation. 5、 We should unite, not split. A world of sustainable development should bear colorful civilizations, and human modernization should be compatible with diverse roads. Peace, development, fairness, justice, democracy and freedom are the common values of all mankind. Institutional differences should not be the reason for division. Democracy and human rights should not be politicized, instrumentalized or weaponized. We should abandon the ideological line and unite to gather the greatest common divisor and draw the largest concentric circle for promoting world peace and development. 6、 Be fair and don't bully. Mutual respect and equality between large and small countries are the cardinal principles of the UN Charter. International events should be shared by all countries, and international rules should be shared by all countries
