MIIT: 677000 new 5G base stations will be built from January to August 2022
2022-09-23
On September 20, according to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, as of the end of August, the total number of 5G base stations had reached 2.102 million, accounting for 19.8% of the total number of mobile base stations, 5.5 percentage points higher than that at the end of last year. Among them, 677000 5G base stations were newly built from January to August this year. In September this year, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology said that the world's largest optical fiber and mobile broadband networks had been built, the optical fiber transformation was fully completed, 4G networks covered urban and rural areas, and the development of 5G networks was accelerated. The five top nodes of industrial Internet identity resolution are operating stably, and the secondary nodes cover 29 provinces (districts and cities). IT Home learned that the country has achieved "broadband access to villages", "5G access to counties" and "gigabit access to cities". The person in charge of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology previously said that during the "13th Five Year Plan" period, the annual average decline of comprehensive energy consumption per unit of telecommunications business volume exceeded 20%. In the future, it will further actively promote energy conservation and consumption reduction in the information and communication industry and guide the green and low-carbon development of the industry. At present, the energy consumption of a single 5G base station site has been reduced by more than 20% compared with the initial stage of commercial use, and the average design PUE (power utilization efficiency) of large and above data centers under construction has been reduced to below 1.3. It is necessary to comprehensively carry out network optical fiber transformation, release the catalogue of obsolete equipment with high energy consumption and the catalogue of new energy-saving technologies in the industry, and steadily promote network upgrading. We will continue to promote the co construction and sharing of communication infrastructure in the base station machine room, pipeline lines, smart towers and other scenarios, and improve the green level of network construction, operation and maintenance.
