Yang Jiechi Chairs the 17th Round of China Russia Strategic Security Consultation

On September 19, Yang Jiechi, member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and head of the Office of the Central Foreign Affairs Working Committee, co chaired the 17th round of China Russia Strategic Security Consultation in Fujian with Patrushev, Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation. The two sides agreed to continue to make good use of the strategic security consultation mechanism as an important platform, implement the consensus reached by the heads of China and Russia during the SCO Samarkand Summit, enhance mutual trust, support each other to follow a development path consistent with their own national conditions, jointly maintain global strategic stability, and constantly consolidate and enrich the connotation of the comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination between the two countries. The two countries have always firmly supported each other on issues involving each other's core interests and major concerns. The connotation of cooperation in various fields has been constantly enriched. They have jointly defended the international system with the United Nations at its core and the international order based on international law, maintained international fairness and justice, and set a new model of major country relations featuring mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation. Yang Jiechi pointed out that China is willing to work with Russia to fully implement the consensus of the two heads of state, continue to deepen political mutual trust and strategic cooperation, ensure that bilateral relations move forward in the direction determined by the two heads of state, create a more secure and stable external environment for the respective development and revitalization of China and Russia, and make greater contributions to safeguarding the common interests of the two countries and world security and stability. Patrushev said that Russia is willing to maintain close strategic communication with China, deepen practical cooperation in various fields, and further strengthen coordination and cooperation in international organizations. The two sides also exchanged in-depth views on maintaining global strategic stability, the situation in the Asia Pacific region, Afghanistan, Ukraine and other issues. (Liu Xinshe)
