The towering ancient trees have always been one of the characteristics of the sandy surface. Wang Huali, an old neighbor, said: "people always come to punch in the building of western style houses, but few people come specially for these ancient trees." The trees are lush and there are many birds. Liu Zhanquan, Deputy principal of Shamian primary school, leads the students of the nature observation interest group to watch birds. Distribution map of ancient and famous trees in Shamian drawn by teachers and students of Shamian primary school. The interviewees provided pictures of the neighborhoods in Shamian. Many people will find that the air here is filled with a faint fragrance, which makes people feel relaxed and happy in hot weather. Some old residents said that "when I smell this fragrance, I feel like I'm home". So, where does this mysterious fragrance come from? It turns out that this is the contribution of the ancient camphor trees on the island to the people. It can be said that Shamian is one of the places where ancient and famous trees are most concentrated in Guangzhou, with a total of 137 trees. Among them, 2 trees are more than 300 years old, all of which are camphor trees; There are 40 trees more than 200 years old; There are 95 trees more than 100 years old. Among these famous trees, there are 68 ancient camphor trees, and the others are banyan trees. They take root in the sand and decorate Guangzhou. The neighbors love and protect trees, and have long formed a community of life with these ancient trees. The ancient trees on the sandy surface have not changed for many years. Looking up, you can see green and looking down, you can see homesickness. "Did you smell a fragrance as soon as you entered the sand noodles? Every time I came back, I would feel at home as soon as I smelled this familiar and faint smell." Wang Huali, an old neighbor of Shamian who moved out in recent years, said that the so-called camphor tree "will not fall for a thousand years, but will smell for a thousand years after falling". This fragrance comes from the camphor on the island. "Ancient trees, ancient buildings and sculptures are the 'three treasures' of the sand." Yang Yong, deputy secretary of the Party Working Committee of Shamian sub district in Liwan District, said that on this small island with only 0.3 square kilometers and eight streets, the relationship between ancient trees and residents and units on the island is like the relationship between tree roots and branches and leaves. They have long been a community of life. In 1958, at the age of two and a half, Wang Huali followed his parents who went south to work to settle in Shamian Second Street. Having lived on the island for more than half a century, she has witnessed the changes and development of the sand surface. She has seen flower farmers selling flowers in flower boats, and people digging up the river mud deposited in shajiyong; I have also seen the fine white sand on the South Bank of the sandy surface, and the rise of the White Swan Hotel - it is the trees on the island that have not changed much. "People always come to punch in the building of western style houses, but few people come specially for these ancient trees." She said that a hundred year old tree is a living cultural relic. If it has memory, it is estimated that it will "tell" many stories. Wang Huali recalls that the ancient trees on the sandy surface are towering and have never changed. When she was a child, she liked to climb a slanting camphor tree. At that time, under the big tree, some middle school students recited words while walking. The quiet and bookish picture is still engraved in her mind. At that time, she looked forward to: "when I go to middle school, I will also recite words under the tree." However, in his teens, Wang Huali did not have the opportunity to continue his studies. His parents could not stay with him, leaving Wang Huali and many of his friends in a state of self-reliance. "Every time we prune, the smell of camphor will become stronger. We like to pick up some camphor trees
