State Councilor and foreign minister Wang Yi delivered a video address at the opening ceremony of the seminar to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the normalization of Sino Japanese diplomatic relations on December 12. Wang Yi expressed that good neighborly and friendly coexistence, development and revitalization of Asia are the destiny, original intention and responsibility of China and Japan. Wang Yi put forward five points of view on building China Japan relations that meet the requirements of the new era: we should practice our promises and safeguard the political foundation of China Japan relations. To ensure stable and long-term development of bilateral relations, we must abide by the four political documents reached between China and Japan and the commitments made so far. We must not be vague about history, Taiwan and other major issues of principle that are fundamental to Sino Japanese relations, let alone waver or regress. We should focus on the overall situation and grasp the correct direction of development. The two sides should reflect the political consensus of "being partners and not posing a threat to each other" in their policies, implement it in their actions, eliminate interference, properly handle differences, and ensure that the ship of China Japan relations does not run aground or deviate. We should deepen cooperation and achieve a higher level of mutual benefit and win-win results. The two sides should firmly establish a sense of partnership, uphold a global perspective, jointly resist the wrong practice of "decoupling" and maintain the stability and smoothness of the global production and supply chain and the fair and open trade and investment environment. We should strengthen guidance and shape positive and friendly mutual cognition. China Japan nongovernmental exchanges have a long history, and they should keep pace with the times, inherit and carry forward. We should adhere to the principle of "harmony but difference", value harmony and avoid imposing our own values on the other side. We should follow the general trend and practice genuine multilateralism. We should see clearly the trend of the times, safeguard the international system with the United Nations at the core, jointly oppose zero sum game and camp confrontation, and promote regional stability and integrated development. In his video address, Japanese Foreign Minister Lin Fang said that both sides should focus on the next 50 years and work together to build constructive and stable Japan China relations. (Li Xinshe)
