Dai Bing, Deputy Permanent Representative of China to the United Nations, said on the 8th that China hopes that the office of the new United Nations High Commissioner for human rights (OHCHR), under the leadership of Volcker Turke, will adhere to the principles of objectivity, impartiality, non selectivity and non politicization, work to promote equal dialogue and bridge differences among Member States, resolutely oppose double standards and politicize human rights issues. On the same day, Chinese representatives attended the general assembly and unanimously approved the appointment of Turk as the UN High Commissioner for human rights by UN Secretary General Guterres. After approving the appointment, Dai Bing expressed the hope that after taking office, Turk would lead the office of the High Commissioner for human rights to carry out its duties in strict accordance with the mandate of General Assembly resolution 48 / 141 and Human Rights Council resolutions, and work to promote human rights dialogue and cooperation. Dai Bing said that with the instigation of a few countries, the current trend of politicization in the field of human rights is serious, and confrontation and division are intensifying. A small number of countries wantonly interfere in the internal affairs of other countries under the pretext of human rights. Most member states are firmly opposed to this. Dai Bing said that human rights are universal, historical, concrete and realistic. For developing countries, especially the least developed countries, the right to survival and development are the primary human rights. It is hoped that the office of the High Commissioner for human rights will promote all kinds of human rights in a balanced manner, pay attention to the reasonable demands of developing countries, further increase its attention to and input into economic, social and cultural rights and the right to development, and help developing countries strengthen human rights capacity-building on the basis of the consent of the countries concerned. Dai Bing stressed that the OHCHR should adhere to diversity and recruit talents from all walks of life. At present, the composition of the office of the High Commissioner is extremely unbalanced and the representation of developing countries is seriously inadequate. China and many developing countries are deeply concerned about this. China calls for fundamental reform of the office of the High Commissioner to ensure inclusiveness and geographical balance.
