Zambia first issued UnionPay card

UnionPay International announced that it had reached cooperation with the national savings and credit union of Zambia (nascu). The two sides agreed to issue 700000 UnionPay cards within three years, which was the first time that Zambia issued UnionPay cards. After the cooperation was launched, the number of countries and regions issuing UnionPay cards in the world increased to 77. The UnionPay acceptance network has covered 181 countries and regions around the world, and the overseas card issuance has exceeded 190 million. In the Asia Pacific region, every four new bank cards are issued, that is, one UnionPay card. "UnionPay" has accounted for 95% of the debit cards in Hong Kong and Macao. It has also become a student card and a citizen card in the Philippines, the United Arab Emirates and other places. Since the beginning of this year, more than 13 million UnionPay cards have been issued overseas, and the transaction scale has exceeded the level before COVID-19. The localization process of UnionPay international business has continued to accelerate. The bilateral trade volume between China and Zambia reached a record high last year, and Zambia became the African country that attracted the most direct investment from China. 90% of local merchants have supported UnionPay cards, and the payment experience of visiting tourists is constantly optimized. On this basis, UnionPay international cooperated with local institutions to expand the service target to local residents. A number of financial institutions under Zambia national savings and credit cooperative will issue UnionPay chip cards, providing new choices for users who used to pay mainly in cash, and supporting them to more conveniently consume daily and cross-border. In recent years, UnionPay international has promoted the issuance of UnionPay cards in 14 African countries to improve the two-way payment service capability to China and Africa. Recently, Equatorial Guinea issued UnionPay cards for the first time. The scale of UnionPay cards in Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda, Mauritius and other countries continued to increase.
