Guterres appoints Simon Steele as executive secretary of the Secretariat of the United Nations Framework Convention on climate change

United Nations Secretary General Guterres appointed Simon Steele from Grenada to replace Patricia Espinosa from Mexico as executive secretary of the Secretariat of the United Nations Framework Convention on climate change on the 15th. Steele served as senior minister of Grenada government from 2013 to June 2022, during which he served as Minister of climate resilience and environment for five years. He has also served as the Minister of education and human resources development, the Minister of state responsible for human resources development and the environment, and the under secretary of state of the Ministry of agriculture, land, forestry and fisheries. He also served as a senator of Grenada's parliament and concurrently as Minister of state. Before joining the government, Steele had 14 years of professional career in the technology field. He had held senior management positions in many industry-leading companies, from technology start-ups in Silicon Valley to many large companies including Nokia. In his early years, Steele received engineer training at the City University of London and the northwest London College, and received an MBA degree from the University of Westminster. (news agency)
