In an exclusive interview with Xinhua reporters in Suva, the capital, a few days ago, Kashmir makun, a famous scholar of Fiji Jinan Pacific University, said that the "the Belt and Road" initiative has strongly promoted the social and economic development of South Pacific island countries and is deeply welcomed by South Pacific island countries. The "the Belt and Road" initiative has broad prospects and great potential for cooperation. Ma Kun studied in China and has been paying attention to and studying the "the Belt and Road" initiative for many years. He believes that as an important cooperation platform, the "the Belt and Road" initiative has promoted bilateral relations between China and these participating countries, and the improvement of relations between China and the South Pacific island countries is a good example. China has made great contributions to the South Pacific island countries in infrastructure construction. It is this kind of practical friendly cooperation that has pushed the relations between China and the South Pacific island countries to a new height. In the eyes of Ma Kun, there are numerous examples of the "the Belt and Road" initiative benefiting the people's livelihood in Fiji. "In January 2018, the completion of the Stimson bridge and the watuwaka bridge, which were built with Chinese assistance, greatly eased the traffic pressure in the eastern part of Suva city and became an important node connecting Suva and nausori economic corridor; the navua hospital near Suva facilitated the medical treatment of the people in the surrounding areas; in 2014, the project of China aided Fijian mycorrhizal technology demonstration center opened in Nadi, the third largest city in Fiji, was designed to help Fijian farmers get rid of poverty and improve the ecological environment Environment and promoting sustainable development. These projects in China teach people to fish, which is a successful practice of China and Fiji in the mutually beneficial and win-win cooperation of the "the Belt and Road" and is deeply welcomed by the Fiji government and people. " He said that the "the Belt and Road" initiative has achieved the vision of common prosperity and development through infrastructure construction, continuously demonstrated strong vitality, and injected strong impetus into global opening and cooperation and world economic recovery. Ma Kun believes that there is great potential for future cooperation between China and South Pacific island countries. He said that China, the world's second largest economy, and the South Pacific island country, which is rich in natural resources, have complementary advantages. The two sides should make full use of the "the Belt and Road" cooperation platform to further deepen and expand cooperation fields. In addition to infrastructure construction, the two sides can also make great achievements in green renewable energy, intelligent transportation, e-commerce and climate change. "The 'the Belt and Road' green development partnership initiative can be connected with the sustainable development roadmap of South Pacific island countries and the 'blue Pacific continent 2050 development strategy', which is of great benefit to improving the management and control of environmental and climate crises, innovating green financial products and launching joint venture financial green projects." Ma Kun also refuted the slander of western countries on the "the Belt and Road" cooperation, pointing out that the "the Belt and Road" initiative is a win-win cooperation between China and participating countries and will not lead to the so-called "debt trap". He stressed that the "the Belt and Road" cooperation is open, inclusive and committed to common development, which is in the interests of China, South Pacific island countries and other international partners. He hoped that other international partners would work together with China to take practical actions for the development of South Pacific island countries. (news agency)
