UN Secretary General Guterres on the 3rd called on governments to tax large oil and gas companies that have made huge profits from the current energy crisis. Governments should levy taxes on energy companies that make excessive profits, and the taxes should be used to help the most vulnerable people tide over the difficulties. Guterres also called on all countries, especially developed countries, to manage energy demand through energy conservation, promoting public transport and promoting nature based energy solutions, and accelerate the conversion to renewable energy. After the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, Guterres set up the UN global food, energy and financial crisis response team to study the situation and seek countermeasures.
