Foreign media: Sri Lanka will restart the rescue negotiations with the International Monetary Fund in August

According to Reuters, on August 3, local time, Sri Lankan President viklamasingha told the parliament that the Sri Lankan government and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) would resume negotiations on the rescue plan in August. "We are confident that the discussion will be successfully completed," viklamasingha said in a speech. Earlier, on July 30, viklamasingha said that since 2022, the Sri Lankan government and the International Monetary Fund had discussed the issue of solving the economic crisis in Sri Lanka. It was originally planned to reach an agreement before July and obtain the approval of the international monetary fund before August 1, but it was postponed due to the protests in Colombo. On July 9, a large-scale demonstration took place in Colombo, the capital of Sri Lanka. Soon after, Gotabaya Rajapaksa said that he would resign as president on the 13th, and viklamasingha also announced that he would resign as prime minister.
