Nairobi expressway, the capital of Kenya, invested and developed by China Road and Bridge Engineering Co., Ltd. Kenyatta said in his speech at the ceremony that the Nairobi Expressway and the new Nairobi East Ring Road, which was constructed by Chinese enterprises and opened to traffic on the 31st, will significantly alleviate the traffic congestion in Nairobi. Before the opening of Nairobi expressway, some sections needed at least 3 hours' drive, but now it only takes 15 to 24 minutes. Kenyatta said that in the short time since the trial operation of Nairobi expressway was launched on May 14, the expressway has proved its value, making Nairobi usher in an era of reducing traffic time, increasing mobility, reducing congestion and improving productivity. It has created a better business environment and will bring more opportunities to Kenya's tourism, conference and hotel industries. James macharya, Minister of transport and infrastructure of Kenya, said at the ceremony that the Nairobi expressway is one of the best infrastructure projects in Africa and a model project for the cooperation between the Kenyan government and social capital. It is reported that the Nairobi Expressway connects the urban area of Nairobi with Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, passing through Nairobi Central Business District, National Museum, National Stadium, parliament building, presidential palace and other important landmarks, with a total length of 27.1 kilometers. Construction began in September 2020. The project is the first toll road project in Kenya. It is developed by China Road and Bridge in cooperation with the Kenyan government in the mode of construction operation transfer. The construction and operation period is a total of 30 years.
