The study said that frequent siesta or increased blood pressure and the probability of stroke

People of many regions and races in the world have the habit of taking a nap. Many people will think that taking a nap is conducive to restoring energy in the afternoon. But is napping really beneficial? On July 25, the international authoritative medical journal hypertension published online a research result of Professor Wang e's team in Xiangya Hospital of Central South University. Wang e's team applied bioinformatics for the first time to carry out a large sample clinical study on the causal relationship between siesta and cardiovascular diseases such as hypertension and stroke. The results show that frequent siesta (that is, siesta more than 3 times a week or more) may increase the incidence of hypertension and stroke in the middle-aged and elderly. Hypertension is one of the main causes of death caused by cardiovascular disease in the middle-aged and elderly people all over the world. Stroke (commonly known as stroke) is one of the main causes of disability in the middle-aged and elderly. Early research findings. In 24 hours a day, people's blood pressure will rise after taking a nap. However, whether siesta will lead to the increase of cardiovascular diseases such as hypertension and stroke has been controversial in academia. The UK Biobank database recruited more than 500000 British volunteers aged 40-69 to collect information about their genetics, lifestyle and health. Wang e's team selected a 10-year follow-up cohort of 350000 people without a history of hypertension and stroke from the 500000 people in the database, and carried out the study in combination with Mendelian randomization. The results showed that those who took frequent naps had a 12% higher risk of hypertension and a 24% higher risk of stroke than those who never took naps. Wang e said that although the study was aimed at middle-aged and elderly people in Europe, it was a large-scale clinical study, so it had certain universal implications. However, up to now, the internal mechanism of the association between siesta and hypertension, stroke and other diseases is not clear, which needs further research. Is it good to take a nap? Wang e suggested that according to previous observational studies, for middle-aged people who have sufficient sleep time at night (more than 7 hours), the effective sleep time of daily siesta is 15-30 minutes, which is not only conducive to staying awake in the afternoon, but also reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease. In particular, previous studies have also found that insufficient sleep at night and sleep supplement during the day do not cause health risks, but they cannot fully compensate for the harm caused by insufficient sleep at night. Therefore, people try to ensure adequate sleep at night to maintain cardiovascular health. (outlook new era)
