China's experience in poverty reduction is worth learning from -- an interview with kellapier, President of the United Nations Economic and Social Council
2022-07-18
The president of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and the permanent representative of Botswana to the United Nations, Colleen kelapir, said in an exclusive interview with Xinhua News Agency a few days ago that when the global poverty population is increasing due to factors such as the COVID-19, the climate crisis and regional conflicts, relevant countries should learn from China's experience in poverty reduction. The 2022 United Nations High level political forum on sustainable development closed at the United Nations headquarters in New York on the 15th. In an interview during the meeting, kellapier said that poverty is "everywhere", and China's advanced experience in solving poverty "is worth learning from". He said that "eradicating poverty is the goal of all people", and it is also the primary goal of the United Nations 2030 agenda for sustainable development. Listening to the success stories of countries in poverty reduction can greatly stimulate the countries concerned to strive for this goal. According to the 2022 sustainable development goals report released by the United Nations on the 7th, 93million people will be trapped in extreme poverty in 2020. On February 25th, 2021, Chinese leaders solemnly announced at the national poverty alleviation summary and commendation conference that the war against poverty has won an all-round victory, and China has completed the arduous task of eradicating absolute poverty. China, which accounts for nearly one fifth of the world's population, has comprehensively eradicated absolute poverty and achieved the poverty reduction goal of the United Nations 2030 agenda for sustainable development 10 years ahead of schedule, making a significant contribution to the development of global poverty reduction and human development progress. Talking about China's achievements in poverty reduction, kellapier said that China's successful example of eradicating absolute poverty has inspired all people who are fighting for this goal. At present, the problem of poverty is very prominent. Crises and challenges such as the COVID-19 have plunged tens of millions of people back into more serious poverty. "It is very important for us to learn from China's successful experience in this regard." (Xinhua News Agency)
