On May 30, 2022, following the approval of the establishment of the National Botanical Garden in Beijing, the State Council approved the establishment of the South China National Botanical Garden in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province. The South China National Botanical Garden was established by relying on the South China Botanical Garden of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. South China National Botanical Garden is committed to plant conservation, scientific research and knowledge dissemination in the tropical and subtropical regions of the world. Its predecessor is the Institute of agroforestry and botany of National Sun Yat sen University. It was founded by academician Chen Huanyong, a famous botanist, in 1929. It is one of the oldest Botany research and protection institutions in China. The South China National Botanical Garden plans a total area of 319 hectares, and plans to optimize the scientific research area, special category exhibition area and technology promotion platform. The scientific research area focuses on scientific research and resource research and development; The special exhibition area mainly focuses on collection and protection, garden culture and horticultural technology exhibition, and popular science education.
