The United Nations calls on the international community to take joint action to achieve the sustainable development goals

2022-07-07

At the 2022 United Nations High level political forum on sustainable development, which opened on the 5th, a number of UN officials said that development is facing challenges, and the international community should act together to achieve the 2030 United Nations sustainable development goals. UN Deputy Secretary General Amina Mohammed said that the challenges posed by the COVID-19, conflict and environmental crisis have affected education, health care, gender equality and economic development. She pointed out that the timetable of the 2030 agenda is more than half, but "we have not completed half of the tasks". To this end, the world needs to transform in the fields of renewable energy, food system and digital connection, accelerate the pace of "human capital investment and financing opportunities", and then turn crisis into opportunity. The president of the United Nations Economic and Social Council, Colleen kellapier, said that the main goal of this year's forum is to strengthen partnerships to create a "peaceful and prosperous" world that protects mankind and the earth. He said that although facing multiple difficulties, "we should remain optimistic about achieving the goals". He called on the international community to strengthen its determination to act together and support each other. Qudongyu, director general of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization, said, "we are facing a serious risk of food access crisis, and we may face a food supply crisis next quarter", which puts efforts to achieve the sustainable development goals at risk. He stressed that the ability of the agricultural food system to withstand shocks should be improved to prevent the deterioration of global food insecurity. Liu Zhenmin, under secretary general for economic and social affairs of the United Nations, said that compared with the pre epidemic level, another 75million to 95million people will fall into extreme poverty in 2022. "We must remain committed to the people-oriented and earth centric path of prosperity we set out in the 2030 agenda, which can only be achieved when we all act together." The United Nations High level political forum on sustainable development is held at the United Nations headquarters in New York every July to discuss the progress of the implementation of the United Nations sustainable development goals. Affected by the COVID-19, the forum was held offline after three years. The forum, which will last until the 15th, will discuss in depth the five sustainable development goals of high-quality education, gender equality, underwater biology, terrestrial biology and the partnership to promote the achievement of the goals.
