The newly opened "architecture" special tour route of Dunhuang Mogao Grottoes
2022-07-01
In order to provide a new experience for tourists visiting the Mogao Grottoes, the Dunhuang Research Institute launched a special tour route of "architecture" on July 1, presenting the shape of the Dunhuang Grottoes, the architectural types in the murals and the architectural relics of the Mogao Grottoes in an all-round way. This is another attempt and exploration of the Institute for the dissemination and display of the contemporary cultural values of the Dunhuang Grottoes. According to the Cultural Promotion Department of Dunhuang Academy, the architectural images in Dunhuang Grottoes have existed in all ages from the Sixteen Kingdoms to the Tang and Song dynasties. The palaces, pavilions and monasteries on earth have become the epitome of the Buddhist paradise in the murals. The palaces, towers, treasure pools and railings in the pure land world have become the ultimate aesthetics of five steps, one floor, ten steps, one Pavilion, the waist of the corridor, and the eaves and teeth pecking high. They are the flowing images of the ten mile towers and the ancient people's depiction of the ideal Buddhist country. The world cultural heritage Dunhuang Mogao Grottoes not only have world-famous murals and colored sculptures, but also retain many ancient buildings. For example, the eaves of cave 196 is one of the few wooden structures of the Tang Dynasty in China. Since the 1940s, the Dunhuang Academy has organized experts to study the architecture of the Mogao Grottoes. The newly opened "architecture" special tour route, especially the special exhibition "Millennium construction - the beauty of architecture in Dunhuang murals", fully integrates the construction concepts of Dunhuang grotto cliff structure and cave space layout, and intensively displays the most magnificent ancient architectural images in Dunhuang murals, as well as the green landscape, courtyard flowers and trees in the murals, reproducing the true appearance of China's Millennium ancient buildings. The exhibition took seven years to plan, with 419 exhibits (sets and pieces) on display, including 3D architectural restoration models, 3D printed architectural models, digital high-definition mural replicas, cultural relics, etc. The "resurrected" pavilions and other buildings "leap out" from the murals and become three-dimensional building models. According to the Culture Promotion Department of Dunhuang Research Institute, the daily limit of this "architecture" special tour is 20 people. Tourists will be able to understand the simplicity and nature of Chinese architecture, understand the humanistic concept of harmony behind the ancient Chinese architectural system, and feel the aesthetic interest of Dunhuang architectural culture, Oriental wisdom and Garden Aesthetics.
