The five-day 11th World Urban Forum opened in the southern Polish city of Katowice on the 27th. The theme of this urban forum is "promoting urban transformation and building a better future". The participants will discuss the challenges brought to cities by the COVID-19, climate change and conflict. United Nations Secretary General Guterres said in his video speech that cities are crucial to building a more inclusive, sustainable and resilient future. UN deputy secretary general and executive director of UN Habitat Sharif said that there is an urgent need for innovative solutions for cities to cope with the triple crisis caused by the COVID-19, climate change and conflict. UN Habitat and the Shanghai World City day coordination center jointly organized the "Shanghai global sustainable development city Award" (hereinafter referred to as the "Shanghai Award") during the forum. On the 27th, UN Habitat announced the official launch of the global solicitation of the "Shanghai Award" and invited cities from all over the world to apply for the "Shanghai Award". The "Shanghai Award" is an international award jointly established by UN Habitat, the Ministry of housing and urban rural development of China and the Shanghai Municipal People's government. With the theme of urban sustainable development, the award aims to commend outstanding cities worldwide that have made outstanding progress in sustainable development. The world urban forum is an international conference organized by UN Habitat. It is held every two years. Its topics cover such urgent issues as urban economic and social development in the world.
