How to deal with the expired drugs at home?
2022-06-27
A survey shows that about 78.6% of the families in China have small medicine boxes, but more than 80% of the families do not have the habit of cleaning regularly. Many families have expired drugs. If the drugs are expired, should they be directly thrown into the garbage can, or should they be recycled by a specialized agency? How to handle it correctly? The reporter interviewed the relevant person in charge of the State Food and drug administration. Experts said that expired drugs have been listed as hazardous wastes in China's national directory of hazardous wastes (2021 Edition). After the expiration of the drug, its safety and effectiveness may change and should not be taken. However, if it is discarded at will, it is easy to cause environmental pollution and other problems, and it may even be repackaged and sold by illegal traders. Relevant comrades from the drug regulatory department of the State Food and Drug Administration introduced that according to the list of hazardous wastes exempted from management annexed to the national directory of hazardous wastes (2021 Edition), the waste drugs generated in the daily life of families or activities providing services for daily life belong to the hazardous wastes in domestic garbage, but the above waste drugs can be treated as domestic garbage in the absence of centralized collection. In recent years, some local government departments, pharmaceutical enterprises and retail pharmacies often carry out the centralized recycling activities of expired drugs in families. It is suggested that families with conditions can send expired drugs to these regular recycling points for recycling and unified harmless treatment. If you want to dispose of it by yourself, you can destroy the drug packaging box, and then scatter it with the domestic garbage and recycle it by classification. When disposing expired drugs according to domestic garbage, the packaging box shall be torn to prevent children from picking them up or others from misuse. For some oral tablets, capsules, granules and other solid drugs, do not throw away the whole bottle or box. It is recommended to take the drugs out of the packaging and mix them with domestic garbage; For liquid drugs such as eye drops and oral liquids, the liquid can be extruded and mixed into domestic waste for treatment. In addition, it is suggested that the public should regularly clean up the family medicine box, and purchase drugs rationally when buying drugs every day, so as to avoid excessive hoarding of drugs, resulting in expired waste.
