Turkish media: Ukrainian Quartet talks on grain exports will be held in Turkey next week

2022-06-22

Turkish news television reported on the 21st that the Quartet talks on opening a Ukrainian food export corridor in the Black Sea, promoted by the United Nations, will be held in Istanbul, Turkey's largest city, next week. Turkey, Russia, Ukraine and the United Nations will send representatives to participate. The report quoted several sources close to the Turkish presidential palace as saying that Turkish President Erdogan and UN Secretary General Guterres will attend the Quartet talks. It is reported that Turkey will send a military delegation to Russia this week to discuss with the Russian side the specific plan for opening a Ukrainian food export corridor in the Black Sea. It is expected that this food export corridor will be put into operation within one month. If all goes well, Ukraine is expected to export 30million to 35million tons of grain in the next six to eight months. Ukraine is a major food exporter. The crisis in Ukraine has raised concerns about the lack of food supply in the global market. Since this month, the United Nations has held a series of consultations with Turkey and Russia on Ukrainian food exports. Turkish Foreign Minister chavusholu recently proposed that a safe channel could be set up for the Black Sea ports such as Odessa in Ukraine by bypassing the mines according to the marked positions without clearing them. On the 20th, Erdogan and gutreston telephoned to discuss Ukraine's grain export. Before Russia launched special military operations, Ukrainian grain exports were mainly transported out through the Black Sea ports. Because the port has been shut down, all grain can not be transported out. The Ukrainian side designated Russia to block Ukrainian ports and prevent Ukrainian grain exports. Russia denies interfering with Uzbekistan's exports, pointing out that Uzbekistan has deployed a large number of mines in the Black Sea waters, endangering navigation safety. Russian President Vladimir Putin said on the 3rd of this month that the problem of international food shortage had appeared long before Russia launched special military operations, and Western sanctions against Russia would only worsen the situation of international food and fertilizer supply.
