2022-06-10
On the 9th, the chief executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Carrie Lam, attended the question and answer session of the chief executive of the Last Legislative Council during her term of office. At the question and answer session, she said that she had handed over a transcript worthy of her own, which also put a complete end to her 42 year public service career. I wish all members of the Legislative Council and the people of Hong Kong to embark on a new journey and create a more brilliant future for the cause of "one country, two systems". In her opening speech, Lin zhengyue'e said that she still has three weeks to complete the five-year term of office of the chief executive. Looking back on the past five years, it can be said to be "stormy waves". Hong Kong has faced unprecedented severe challenges. This year is the 25th anniversary of Hong Kong's return to the motherland. Hong Kong is standing at a new starting point to return to the original intention and the correct track of "one country, two systems". Everyone is full of expectations for the future of Hong Kong. She talked about the relationship between the executive and the legislature, how "patriots rule Hong Kong" can promote good governance in Hong Kong, and the future of Hong Kong. She pointed out that the HKSAR pursues an executive led system with the chief executive as the core and is directly responsible to the Central People's government. To thoroughly improve the relationship between the executive and the legislature, we must ensure that "patriots govern Hong Kong". Over the past two years, the central government has acted decisively and the SAR has fully cooperated in implementing Hong Kong's national security law and improving the electoral system, opening a new chapter of good governance for Hong Kong. In her view, with the consensus on the "one country" principle, it is no longer a big problem to properly handle the relationship between the executive and the legislature, truly implement decisions through deliberation, and ensure the smooth and efficient administration of the SAR Government in accordance with the law. The fact that a Legislative Council composed of patriots has helped to enhance the effectiveness of the HKSAR's governance has emerged, and it has also been proved that a lot of work could not be carried out without ensuring that "patriots govern Hong Kong". Mrs Lam said that with the above guarantees and confidence, Hong Kong is more confident that it can make good use of its unique advantages and better integrate into the overall situation of national development. In the past five years, the most exciting and comforting thing for her is the development of innovative technology, culture and art in Hong Kong. She also predicted that the opening ceremony of the Hong Kong Palace Museum of culture would be held on June 22. Subsequently, Mrs. Lam answered the questions raised by the members present, covering the COVID-19 and "customs clearance", housing issues, economic development, civil service construction and other aspects. Many members expressed their respect and determination for the work done by Mrs. Lam and the current SAR government. In response to relevant questions, Carrie Lam pointed out that the key to solving social problems is communication, mutual understanding and accommodation. She hoped that members of the Legislative Council could continue to do a good job in the future. (Xinhua News Agency)
