(linzhengyuee presided over the 10th meeting of the Youth Development Committee.) The chief executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Carrie Lam, said on the 8th that with the joint efforts of all policy bureaux, the overall proportion of young members of advisory and statutory organizations has increased from 7.8% at the end of 2017 to 15.4% at the end of 2021, successfully reaching the 15% target set by the current SAR government. On the same day, linzhengyuee chaired the 10th meeting of the Youth Development Committee (the Committee) and reviewed with the members the work achievements of the Committee since its establishment in 2018. In her first policy address since taking office in 2017, Carrie Lam announced the establishment of the Youth Development Committee to strengthen the internal policy coordination of the HKSAR Government and to more comprehensively and effectively study and discuss issues of concern to young people. At the meeting, the committee members reviewed the work achievements of the Committee since its establishment, and listened to the latest progress of promoting youth development in its policy areas reported by relevant policy bureaus. Among them, the youth committee self recommendation scheme, which hopes to increase the opportunities for youth to discuss politics, has so far received more than 8200 applications, involving 131 seats in 65 committees. It is reported that the committee will soon launch a new funding scheme to subsidize qualified non-governmental organizations to organize projects that help foster positive thinking among young people, especially projects involving cross-border collaboration or youth led community building, so as to strengthen support for the physical and mental health development of young people and foster their positive values. Lin zhengyue'e said that since the promulgation and implementation of the national security law of Hong Kong, Hong Kong society has returned to the right track. Now it is time to rethink how to unite all sectors of society, especially from refocusing and positioning youth policies and regional affairs. She is confident that the members of the Youth Development Committee will continue to work with the HKSAR government to nurture the next generation of excellence for Hong Kong. (Xinhua News Agency)
