The 75th World Health Assembly in Geneva elected Tan Desai, the only candidate and current director general of the World Health Organization, as the next director general of the organization. Tan Desai accepted the appointment of the new director general of who on the same day and said in his speech that he would continue to work to promote primary health care in various countries as the cornerstone of "universal health coverage" advocated by who, and would strengthen the preparation and response of who in the face of health emergencies.
