The species list of a country not only directly reflects the number of species on the territory, but also reflects the richness of biodiversity in the country. The Biodiversity Committee of the Chinese Academy of Sciences released the 2022 edition of the list of biological species in China on the 22nd, including 138293 species and subspecies units, 10343 new species and subspecies units compared with the 2021 edition. It is reported that since 2008, the Biodiversity Committee of the Chinese Academy of Sciences has organized more than 200 domestic experts to comprehensively and systematically collect and sort out the publicly published data of Chinese biological species, and finally compile it into the list of Chinese biological species, which is published every year in the form of an annual list, in order to find out the "family background" of China's biodiversity, support China's actions to implement the Convention on biological diversity, and promote the basic research of relevant disciplines. The 2022 edition of the list of biological species in China contains 138293 species and subspecies, including 68172 animal parts, 46725 plant parts, 17173 fungal parts, 2566 protozoa, 2383 pigment circles, 469 bacterial circles and 805 viruses. The 2022 edition of the list of biological species in China has added 10343 species and subspecies units compared with the 2021 edition. Among them, the Mammalia, Reptilia and amphibia of chordate in the animal kingdom have been completely updated, with a total of 279 species, 7498 species of Insecta of Arthropoda and 119 species of Arachnida; 794 new species in the plant kingdom; 1274 new species were added to the fungal community. "The list of biological species is the basic data for understanding biodiversity. Only when the background is clear can we better carry out research, protection and relevant decisions." According to the relevant person in charge of the Biodiversity Committee of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, China is the only country that publishes a list of biological species every year. Since 2018, the total downloads of China's biological species list have exceeded 5TB, and the online species page has been visited more than 10 million times. The compilation and research of this year's list is led by the Institute of zoology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and completed by taxonomic experts from the Institute of Botany of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Institute of Microbiology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Chengdu Institute of biology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Institute of Oceanography of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and other units.
