CSO summit held in Moscow

The Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) summit was held in the Russian capital Moscow on the 16th. The leaders attending the meeting mainly discussed issues such as mutual cooperation under the framework of the collective security organization, international and regional hotspots and further improving the collective security system. The summit was held on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the signing of the collective security treaty and the 20th anniversary of the founding of the collective security organization. Russian President Vladimir Putin, Armenian Prime Minister pashniyan, Belarusian president Lukashenko, Kazakh President Tokayev, Kyrgyz President zaparov and Tajik President Rakhmon attended the summit and signed a joint statement. The statement said that the organization has the responsibility to ensure lasting peace in the Eurasian region, considers it essential to ease tensions in the region, and reiterates its willingness to establish practical cooperation with NATO. The organization will uphold the security, sovereignty and territorial integrity of its Member States, strive to consolidate global and regional security, and fairly solve international problems in accordance with the universally recognized norms and principles of international law. The organization is willing to deepen cooperation with the United Nations and other international and regional organizations and relevant countries. The statement also said that the situation in Afghanistan and other external borders of CSTO Member States is worrying, and CSTO will ensure the security of regional borders. The collective security organization was established in May 2002 and evolved from the CIS collective security treaty signed in 1992. At present, there are six member states: Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Armenia and Kyrgyzstan. (Xinhua News Agency)
