The United Nations Economic Commission for Africa released a report in Dakar, Senegal, on the 14th that about 55million people in Africa will fall into extreme poverty in 2020 due to the impact of the COVID-19. The 54th conference of African Ministers of finance, planning and economic development of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa was held in Dakar from 11 to 17. On the 14th, the committee released the Africa economic report 2021 with the theme of "coping with the challenges of poverty and vulnerability in the new crown period", which analyzed the causes and consequences of increasing poverty in Africa during the COVID-19. According to the report, in 2020, about 55million people in Africa fell into extreme poverty due to the impact of the COVID-19, which has seriously affected poverty reduction in Africa for more than 20 years. In African countries, people with small assets, low wages, limited credit and informal employment are very vulnerable to COVID-19 and other factors and fall into extreme poverty. The report believes that problems such as climate change have also exacerbated poverty and economic vulnerability in Africa, and many African countries are at risk of falling into "excessive debt".
