German President: Germany has reduced its energy dependence on Russia

German President Steinmeier said in Bucharest, Romania, on the 4th that Germany has reduced its energy dependence on Russia. Steinmeier visited Romania on the same day and discussed with Romanian President Johannes on the situation in Ukraine, the security of the east wing of NATO and the new round of EU sanctions against Russia. Steinmeier said at a joint press conference after the meeting that Germany's energy dependence on Russia has decreased significantly, and its oil dependence on Russia has dropped to 15%. Johannes said that it is crucial to provide continuous support to Ukraine, and Romania will help Ukraine export goods, including food, to third-party markets. Romania hopes to play an active role in realizing the strategic goal of diversification of EU natural gas supply. On the 4th, the European Commission submitted a proposal for the sixth round of sanctions against Russia, including a comprehensive ban on the import of Russian oil by the end of this year. According to EU rules, the proposal of the European Commission needs the unanimous consent of 27 member states to enter into force. (Xinhua News Agency)
